
Melich's Career Day Paces Women's Golf in Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. – After 36 holes at the Mountain View Collegiate in Tucson, Ariz., the Southern Miss women's golf team is in 17th. Elena Melich fired a team-best 68 to climb nearly 40 spots on the leaderboard.
Melich's four-under 68 was a career best for the sophomore. The Golden Eagles combined for 19 birdies on day two, led by Melich's six. Melich torched the back half of her round with four birdies to finish with a four-under 68. Meanwhile, Ando had four birdies to stay Southern Miss' top individual.
Taylor Trible improved her day one score by one stroke with a three-over 75. The freshman had five birdies, including three in a seven-hole stretch. Jacee Fields had five birdies en route to a seven-over 79. Alma Betoret struggled on day two, firing a 10-over 82 after shooting one-par yesterday.
Overall, Iowa State leads the tournament by 16 strokes after going 23-under par today. Karisa Chul-ak-sorn tops the individual leaderboard thanks to a 10-under 62 today.
The Golden Eagles will tee off at 10 a.m. CST on Sunday morning for the final round in Tucson.
