HATTIESBURG, Miss.–At the Southern Miss Tennis Complex, this weekend, the Southern Miss women's tennis team (5-2, 0-0 Sun Belt) opens conference play against Georgia State (0-9, 0-0 Sun Belt) on Saturday morning and Troy (7-2, 0-0 Sun Belt) on Sunday morning.
The last time the Golden Eagles took the court was this past weekend, March 5, at home against New Orleans for a 6-1 victory.
The Golden Eagles claimed the day's opening match on courts one and three. The doubles point was won by the teams of Ebru Zeynep Yazgan and Alyssa Richter (6-3) and Zenn Lim and Maddison Ricardo (6-3).
Heading into singles play, Lim and Ricardo swept their opponents in two sets. Extending their win streak to four. Lim overcame Tristanne Dechoux in two 6-1 sets, while Ricardo finished with scores of 6-1 and 6-2.
The Black & Gold lost their lone encounter with the Panthers 4-3 on March 11, 2017, in Atlanta, Ga. Georgia State was behind 2-1 when the Golden Eagles won the doubles point and attempted to build on that momentum in singles play, but they dropped the final two points on courts 3 and 4.
Troy and Southern Miss have faced off five times since 2007. The Trojans have a 3-2 series advantage. The last time these two teams squared off was on March 1, 2020, in Hattiesburg; the Golden Eagles cruised 6-1, taking the doubles point early and winning five of the six singles matches.
First serve is slated for 10:00 a.m. at the Southern Miss Tennis Complex, and all home matches are free entry.
