Track and Field Heads to Finish Out the Indoor Season in Birmingham

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss track & field team heads to Birmingham, Ala., to compete in the Sun Belt Indoor Championships Feb. 20-21 at the CrossPlex. The women aim to find a third-year conference win and first in the Sun Belt. The men look to improve their seventh-place mark a season ago.
"We look forward to the fresh challenge the SBC presents. Our work is cut out for us because this conference features some excellent teams. Jon Stuart, head coach, remarked, "I simply can't wait for the gun to fire tomorrow."
Safiya John (Pentathlon) sits in the number two seed, while Zharia Taylor (High Jump) and Smilla Kolbe (800m) are seeded in the top three. On the men's side, the DMR squad of Austin Bourne, Mar'Ques McCray, Dylan Evans, and Tomek Przybylak also sits at number three.
The two-day event consists of 17 men's and 17 women's events.
The competition begins at 10 a.m. each day with the multi-events. Running events start at 3:05 p.m. on Monday and 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The championship awards ceremony will follow the competition on Tuesday.
The meet will feature 37 student-athletes from Southern Miss to compete on the two teams, 19 for the women's team and 18 for the men's.
