Lady Eagles Suffer First Loss of the Season

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Southern Miss women's basketball suffers its first loss of the year after a back-and-forth 69-67 battle against Memphis. The Tigers tied the game with 43 seconds left and took the lead with 2.1 seconds left in regulation.
The Lady Eagles (7-1) were led in scoring by Domonique Davis (DeRidder, La.) with 25 points. Melyia Grayson (Hattiesburg, Miss.) put up 15 of her own to combine for 40 of Southern Miss' 67 points. Four Tigers finished with double-figures as Memphis (4-6) overcame a five-point fourth quarter deficit in the final 2:06.
Memphis led for 30:49 of the game's 40 minutes, allowing Southern Miss to hold the lead for just 5:38. Southern Miss finished 24-of-48 from the floor and held Memphis to 26-of-66 (39.4 percent). The Tigers' 10 three-pointers proved to the difference in the game.
Early on, Memphis pulled out to a 12-point lead at the 3:30 mark in the first quarter and Southern Miss was able to overcome that and led at the half 34-33.

Southern Miss stays on the road and travels to Fort Myers, Fla., for the two-day Homewood Suites Classic. The Lady Eagles open the tournament against Cleveland State on Dec. 20 and finished the trip against Florida Gulf Coast on Dec. 21.
