
National Champion 1958 Football Team Set to Return Saturday for 65th Anniversary

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The 1958 Southern Miss national championship football team celebrates its 65th anniversary during the Golden Eagles' season finale against Troy, Saturday, Nov. 25, at Carlisle-Faulkner Field at M.M. Roberts Stadium.
Game time is set for 11 a.m., and tickets remain for the contest. Fans can purchase tickets for the game by going online at SouthernMissTickets.com.
Then known as Mississippi Southern College, the team was coached by Thad "Pie" Vann, a member of the National College Football Hall of Fame.
The team finished the season 9-0, winning the UPI National College Division Championship, leading the poll "wire-to-wire." The record included a 26-14 win over North Carolina State in Mobile, Ala., and a 41-0 win over Virginia Tech in Hattiesburg. The squad completed the season with a 20-13 victory over Chattanooga in Chattanooga, Tenn. on Thanksgiving Day.
Fifteen members of this team, and four coaches, are members of the Southern Miss M-Club Sports Hall of Fame.
