Golden Eagles to Host Southern Miss Fall Invitational

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- With Homecoming Week in full swing in Hattiesburg, the men's tennis team will add to the festivities as they host the Southern Miss Fall Invitational this weekend. The three-day event will start on Friday at the Southern Miss Tennis Complex and run through Sunday afternoon.

"The opportunity to play at home is always exciting - especially when you have high-caliber teams coming in to participate," said head coach Zubin Engineer. "The team played well in our first tournament, and we came back in practice last week to correct small things. I think we will have another strong weekend and I am looking forward to seeing the team compete."

The field includes Louisiana, LSU, New Orleans, South Alabama, Southern Miss and Tulane. Matches on Friday will start at 10 a.m. with doubles play. The first round of singles matches will immediately follow doubles, then the second round of singles play will follow.

Southern Miss opens Friday's doubles play against a combination of players from Louisiana, LSU and Tulane. Singles will be against New Orleans. Saturday's doubles contest features a combination of South Alabama and LSU student-athletes, while singles feature the Friday doubles combination. The Golden Eagles close out the invitational against New Orleans in doubles. The final singles matches will be against South Alabama and LSU again.

The Golden Eagles are competing for the first time since taking home 10 wins at the Lake Charles Hidden Duals in September. Shamirul Shahril and Olimjon Nabiev each won two of their three singles matches that weekend, while freshman Hennry Lamchinniah picked up his first collegiate win.
