Volleyball Hosts First Home Conference Series Versus ULM

HATTIESBURG, Miss.-Southern Miss (5-10, 0-4 Sun Belt) returns home from its four-game road stretch to host ULM (4-14, 0-4 Sun Belt) with a pair of matches set for Thursday at 7 p.m. and Friday at 5 p.m.

The Golden Eagles slumped to a five-game losing streak after dropping both contests in the Trojan Arena last weekend against Troy. Southern Miss rallied from a 3-0 defeat Friday and nearly came away with a victory Saturday, which Troy spoiled with a late comeback in the fifth set.

Southern Miss struggled to hit Friday at .052 but improved to a .249 hitting percentage Saturday and tied a season-high of 59 kills.

Defensively, the Golden Eagles shattered its season-high in blocks with 18 total blocks in the loss Saturday against the Trojans. Southern Miss led the Sun Belt last weekend with 24 total blocks as a team.

The Golden Eagles look to regroup at home, where they have won six consecutive games dating back to last season.

Southern Miss Quick Hits

Reagan Leinen's career-high 11 block assists Saturday versus Troy tied a program record. Ari Barksdale also set a career-high of nine block assists in the match and Cara Atkinson tied her career-high of seven total blocks. Atkinson led the Sun Belt in total blocks last week, followed by Barksdale and Leinen.

Megan Harris posted a season-high 27 digs against the Trojans on Saturday. Her 4.25 digs per set rank fifth in the Sun Belt.

Mia Wesley registered her sixth double-double of the season Saturday with 19 kills on a .333 clip and a season-high 20 digs. Her 3.69 kills per set rank fifth in the Sun Belt.

Wesley needs 29 more kills to surpass Sharon Montgomery for the tenth most kills in program history.

Sophomore Ella Voorhees made her first start for the Golden Eagles on Saturday at setter, posting a career-high 46 assists and 12 digs.

Scouting ULM

ULM has lost six consecutive games after falling to South Alabama twice at home last weekend.

The Warhawks are led by first-year head coach Matt Kearns, who previously served as the assistant coach at Northern Kentucky.

Libero Cameron Rogers ranks behind Harris in the Sun Belt this season for most digs per set (4.11).

Four Warhawks have eclipsed the 100-kill mark this season: Logan Jeffus, Brynn Botkin, Ariana Brown and Taylor Thomas. Jeffus leads the team with 153 kills on a .289 clip.

ULM has hit at .127 through four conference games in its series against Texas State and South Alabama.

Series History

Southern Miss and ULM each have 13 wins in the series' 26-game history, dating back to 1979. Southern Miss won both games against the Warhawks last season in Monroe, La. The Golden Eagles swept ULM in the first game of the series and won 3-1 in the last meeting on Oct. 7, 2022.
