Men’s Golf Tied for 11th after Opening Day at the Daniel Island Intercollegiate

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss freshman Supakorn Amornchaichan (Pattaya City, Thailand) shot a team low round of 68 for the Golden Eagles as the squad sits tied for 11th after the opening round of the Daniel Island Intercollegiate, Sunday, in Charleston, S.C.
As a team, the Golden Eagles shot a team round score with a four-over 292 as they are tied with Maryland in the standings at the par-72, 7,332-yard Ralston Creek Course at Daniel Island. Middle Tennessee leads the team portion of the event after the first round at 283, followed by Coastal Carolina a stroke back at 284, with both VCU and South Carolina two strokes back at 285 and tied for third.
The Golden Eagles find themselves just nine strokes off the lead thanks to a strong start from Amornchaichan. Starting on the 10th tee, Amornchaichan opened the tournament with seven-straight pars, before a birdie and eagle to complete opening nine with a 33. His back nine saw him birdie the first two holes and then the fifth, before following that with back-to-back bogeys before concluding the round with two pars.
Amornchaichan's 68 puts him in third place, just two strokes behind Kevin Jegers of Middle Tennessee and Melan Dhaubhadel of ULM, who tie for the individual lead of 66.
Junior Cameron Guidry (Picayune, Miss.) is next for the Golden Eagles in a 22nd-place tie after starting his tournament with a 72, while senior Robbie Latter (Mississauga, Ontario) carded a 75 to rank tied for 55th and senior Thongpipat Rattanayanon (Bangkok, Thailand) collected a 77 to sit in a 68th-place tie. Junior Ryan Dupuy (Baton Rouge, La.) rounded out the Golden Eagle scores with an 80 to put him in an 85th-place tie.
