NEW ORLEANS--The Southern Miss cross country team was named an All-Academic Team for the 2022 season by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), announced by the organization on Thursday.Â
To receive All-Academic Team honors, the team must hold at least a 3.0 team GPA on a 4.0 scale, including the most recent grading period. The Golden Eagles maintained a 3.815 GPA.Â
Two individuals earned individual All-Academic status. To receive an individual honor, a student-athlete must have a GPA of at least 3.25 on a 4.0 scale, finish in the top 25 at an NCAA Division I Cross Country Regional Meet, or be a USTFCCCA Division I Cross Country All-American to be eligible for an individual distinction. Oliwia Wawrzyniak and Isabela Ross, freshmen, were recognized as All-Academic Athletes for their first collegiate cross-country appearance.
"I'm very proud of these ladies. They did an outstanding job in the classroom and performed at a very high level on the cross-country course. They exemplify what it means to be a student-athlete and deserve this recognition," said head coach Nick Gibson.Â
