Galbreath Claims Lone Win and McCray Sets New School Record at Blazer Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southern Miss track and field team concluded the Blazer Invitational Friday with a dominant season-opening performance. The day was highlighted with one first-place title, ten top-three finishes, and a new school record.

"I think we got some good things out of ourselves today with Mylani Galbreath taking first in the long jump as well as Mar'Ques McCray and Dylan Evans besting the school record in the 600m run and setting a new one. We had a handful of personal records and top-three finishes", said head coach Jon Stuart. "I am proud of their effort today, and with this as our starting point, we just have to continue to go after it and improve."

Mylani Galbreath had a solid start to her Golden Eagle debut as she took home first place in the high jump for the only victory of the day.

The previous school record in the men's 600m of 1:22.21, set by Dylan Evans in 2022 at the Blazer Invitational, was bested by two Golden Eagles. Evans finished in 1:21.89 for sixth place, and McCray set a new school record of 1:21.84 for third.

DJ Butler ran a personal best in the 300m dash improving his mark and tying the school record set by Trey Johnson in 2019.
