HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Former Southern Miss golfer Brice Wilkinson takes a break from law school this week to participate in the Sanderson Farms Golf Championship, set for Sept. 29-Oct. 2 at the Country Club of Jackson.
Wilkinson, who completed his eligibility last spring and entered law school at Mississippi College this summer, qualified for the event by winning the 108th Mississippi State Amateur Championship at Reunion Golf and Country Club in June. He also captured the Mississippi PGA Trustmark Invitational this summer, making him the only person to ever win both events in the same year.
The Madison, Miss., native was a last-minute addition at the State Amateur Championship and had only played four days during the month he won the event due to his studies.
He did say this after winning the championship in getting the exemption for this event.
"I don't even know what to say about the Sanderson Farm exemption," said Wilkinson right after winning the state amateur. "It has been one of my dreams for a while to play in a PGA Tour event. To actually tee it up in that event at the Country Club of Jackson is going to be really something else."
Wilkinson is paired with fellow Americans Dylan Wu and Paul Haley II, when they tee of at 1:56 p.m., Thursday from the 10th tee.
