Men's Tennis to Host Southern Miss Fall Invitational

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss men's tennis team will open its fall campaign on Saturday morning when it hosts the Southern Miss Fall Invitational. The two-day, five-team event will start at 10 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
Southern Miss will be joined by South Alabama, New Orleans, Tulane, and Louisiana. The Golden Eagles will take on New Orleans in singles play on Saturday morning before battling Tulane in doubles play upon the conclusion of the first matches. They will then take on Tulane and Louisiana in single at 1:30 p.m.
Head coach Zubin Engineer returns seven players from a 2021-22 team that notched wins over Jacksonville State, North Dakota and IUPUI. Southern Miss welcomes back a pair of nine-win players in Shamirul Shahril and Olimjon Nabiev. Their nine wins were a team high and each saw time at No. 1 singles. Antoine Audrain is back for his senior campaign after recording seven wins last season. Engineer also returns Alexander Gima, Pawin Jirampoomdaje, Pasawee Reansuwong and Alan Sanson.
Newcomers Dakotah Bobo, Taras Ignatiuk, and Saheb Sodhi will make their Southern Miss debut this weekend. Bobo joins the Golden Eagles after spending his freshman season at LSU. Sodhi is a Mumbia, India native, while Ignatiuk is a native of Belarus.
