Women's Golf in First Place After Two Rounds in Hoover

HOOVER, Ala. --Â Momoka Ando posted the second-lowest 36-hole total in program history to help propel the Southern Miss women's golf team into first place after two rounds at the Hoover Invitational in Hoover, Ala, which is being played at Hoover Country Club.
The Golden Eagles' 584 team score on Monday is tied for the third-lowest 36-hole total in program history. Ando tied her career-low round of 68 on Monday morning by carding an eagle and four birdies. Her eagle on hole six -- though followed by a bogey -- propelled her to birdie the eighth, ninth and 10th holes. she then added another birdie on 16 to finish four-under par. The Tokyo, Japan native finished with a 73 in the second round to hold onto second place with one round to play.Â
Senior Friend Chompitakdacha used a second-round 70 to vault herself into a tie for sixth after posting a 75 in her first round. Chompitakdacha posted five birdies in the second round after having just one in the morning round. Jacee Fields used rounds of 73 and 75, respectively, to sit in a tie for 12th heading into Tuesday. The Sophomore had five birdies across her 36 holes.Â
Making her first collegiate start, Taylor Trible quickly threw out any nerves as the freshman finished with a one-over 73 just miles from her hometown, Birmingham, Ala. She finished with six birdies in her collegiate debut before shooting a 78 in the second round. She and Elena Melich are tied for 19th after two rounds. Melich rebounded from a first-round 79 to post an even-par 72 in the second round that featured back-to-back birdies to close out the front nine. Alma Betoret posted an 80 and 74 to sit tied for 28th.Â
The final round starts Tuesday morning with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. The Golden Eagles will be spread across the first four holes to start, while Trible will tee off from the 18th hole.Â
