Football Defeats Northwestern State 64-10

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss scored its most points since 2017 and garnered 587 offensive yards to post a 64-10 non-conference football victory over Northwestern State Saturday night at The Rock.
The Golden Eagles (1-2) snapped a two-game losing streak as four quarterbacks combined to throw for 400 yards, including a career-high 192 yards and a career-best three touchdowns from Ty Keyes off the bench.
The point total was the most for the program since defeating Charlotte here, Nov. 18, 2017.
Southern Miss scored the first 50 point of the contest, include taking a 41-0 halftime advantage, as Jakarius Caston collected two touchdown catches of 40 and 7 yards in the first half. Caston finished with games highs of six catches and 94 yards.
The Golden Eagles started the scoring on field goals of 34 and 26 yards on their first two drives by Briggs Bourgeois and Caston added the 40-yard TD score on the third drive, giving Southern Miss a 13-0 advantage after a quarter.
Southern Miss pulled away in the second quarter after Swayze Bozeman returned a fumble 12 yards off a sack and forced fumble by Dominic Quewon and Gore, who rushed for a game-high 82 yards, tallied a 26-yard scoring run with 9:20 left in the second quarter, before Caston added his second TD some six minutes later.
Jalen May finished the scoring for the home team's first-half scoring with 1:24 left before the break on an 89-yard strike across the middle from Keyes, which turned into the fourth longest TD throw in school history.
In the second half, the Golden Eagles added a safety, a seven-yard run from Keyes, a 58-yard pass from Keyes to Zay Franks and a Kenyon Clay six-yard run late in the fourth quarter to finish the scoring.
NSU (0-3) scored all 10 of their points in the third quarter on a 15-yard pass from Zachary Clement to Ke'Nard King and an Eddie Godina 43-yard field goal.
Along with its 400 yards passing, the Golden Eagles added 187 rushing yards in the contest.
The defense limited the Demons to just 234 yards, including 16 on the ground.
The Golden Eagles return to action next Saturday when they travel to New Orleans to face Tulane. Game time is set for 6 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN+.
