Southern Miss Baseball Summer League Update – July 8

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss baseball players are in action across the country this summer, with nine student-athletes participating in five different leagues. Here is an updated look of how those players are doing this summer:
Matt Adams: Upper Valley Nighthawks, New England Collegiate Baseball League
Season stats (2 games): 0-0, 5.62 ERA, 8.0 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 7 BB, 7 K
Adams has made two starts for the Nighthawks this summer and despite not getting a decision in either contest, his team was victorious in both contests. In his start July 3 versus Vermont, he went five innings and allowed three runs on four hits and two walks with three strikeouts.
Casey Artigues: Acadiana Cane Cutters, Texas Collegiate League
Season stats (20 games): .213/.333/.213, 11 R, 13 H, 9 RBI, 9 BB, 17 K, 4 SB
The Cane Cutters went 1-2 in games Artigues played in last week. Through games of July 7, Acadiana holds a 17-10 record and are two games back of the Brazos Valley Bombers for first place in the league. He has played mostly at second base this summer but has seen action in both left and right field as well as first base and designated hitter.
Bryce Fowler: New Market Rebels, Valley League
Hitting stats (28 games): .375/.462/.458, 19 R, 36 H, 6 2B, 3B, 24 RBI, 16 BB, 18 K, 6 SB
Pitching stats (3 games): 0-0, 2 saves, 0.00 ERA, 3.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
Fowler enjoys a current nine-game hitting streak, hitting .562 (18x32) over this span with six runs, three doubles and 11 RBI. He has a multi-hit contest in each of his last six games and seven of his last eight. Also threw a scoreless inning July 3 versus Covington to earn his second save of the summer.
Tanner Hall: Collegiate National Team, USA Baseball
Hall earned a spot on the final 26-man Collegiate National Team roster. The team currently is in Haarlem, Netherlands, to compete in Honkbalweek Haarlem. The US opens tournament play Saturday at 6 a.m. CT, against Japan. In his only appearance in exhibition play during training camp, Hall threw three innings and allowed a run on two hits and a walk with three strikeouts.
Niko Mazza: Wareham Gateman, Cape Cod League
Season stats (4 games): 1-1, 2.07 ERA, 4.1 IP, 4 H, R, ER, BB, 5 K
In two relief outings last week, Mazza threw a scoreless frame against Bourne (July 3) and fanned the only two batters against Orleans (July 6) to get his first victory of the summer. Has only allowed one run over his four appearances in the Cape Cod League.
Creek Robertson: Ocean State Waves, New England Collegiate Baseball League
Season stats (25 games): .115/.214/.164, 7 R, 7 H, 3 2B, 4 RBI, 7 BB, 24 K, 4 SB
Robertson has hit safely in each of his last two games, including a double (July 6) against North Shore. He has also scored a run in each of his last two contests.
Dalton Rogers: Cotuit Kettleers, Cape Cod League
Season stats (2 games): 0-0, 5.68 ERA, 6.1 IP, 1 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 8 K
Rogers has now started a pair of games for Cotuit, including a four-inning start at Brewster (July 6) in which he fanned seven and walked two over four innings with no hits and a run allowed. He has eight strikeouts in 6 1/3 frames.
Matthew Russo: New Market Rebels, Valley League
Season stats (19 games): .258/.365/.387, 16H, 2 2B, 2 HR, 10 RBI, 6 BB, 17 K, 3 SB
Russo collected a pair of multiple hit games over his last two contests and has hit safely in three of his last four contests. He scored four times over seven games last week. At one point during the summer, he hit safely in nine of 10 games.
Will Tynes: Acadiana Cane Cutters, Texas Collegiate League
Season stats (4 games): 2-1, 4.80 ERA, 15.0 IP, 15 H, 8 R, 8 ER, 3 BB, 14 K
Tynes suffered his only loss of the summer in his only start of the week versus Baton Rouge (July 2) in which he allowed four runs on eight hits with four walks and four strikeouts in a 4-2 loss. It was his third start of the summer.
