HATTIESBURG, Miss. – A pair of former Southern Miss men's golfers captured the top spot in both the professional and amateur divisions, while the top five overall finishers at the Mississippi PGA Trustmark Invitational completed Sunday at Canebrake Country Club included all Golden Eagle alumni/coaches.
Brice Wilkinson, who finished as the top golfer overall as well as the amateur division, shot rounds of 73-66-63 to win the event with a 11-under par 202. His final round of 63 tied for the lowest 18-hole score of the event.
Wilkinson, who started the final day two groups ahead of the final pairing, opened up strong on his final round by collecting two birdies over his first three holes. After bogeying the fourth hole, Wilkinson then registered an eagle and followed that with three more birdies to take the lead and never look back.
Former Golden Eagle Kyle Ramey, who enjoyed the lowest scores as a professional in the event with a 204 after putting together a 67-66-71 tied for second, along with current Golden Eagle coach Eddie Brescher (70-66-68) and former Golden Eagle golfer Jared Smith (67-66-71).
Fellow Golden Eagle alumnus Ben Snow ended his 54-hole event two strokes behind at 206 (76-67-63) to finish fifth.
This is the second tournament win for Wilkinson this summer, who captured the 108th Mississippi State Amateur late last month. The win last month for Wilkinson earned him a spot in the PGA Tour's Sanderson Farms Classic this fall, Sept. 29-Oct. 2, at the Country Club of Jackson.
