Golfer Bennett Ruby Qualifies for the U.S. Amateur Championship

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss men's golfer Bennett Ruby (Waterloo, Ontario) will participate in the United States Amateur Championship later this summer, after qualifying in a USGA event Monday afternoon in Oshawa, Ontario.

Ruby fired an even-par of 140 over the two-round, one-day event held at the par 70, 6,502-yard Oshawa Golf and Curling Club.

After shooting a 74 over the first round, Ruby rebounded with a 66 over the final 18 holes, which included a four-under par 32 over the final nine holes – highlighted by an eagle on hole No. 15 - to move up 19 spots in the event and force a three-way tie for second place. Ruby then captured a three-man playoff to secure his spot in the national tournament.

The U.S. Amateur Championship will take place Aug. 15-21, in Pyramus, N.J., with The Ridgewood Country Club serving as the Championship Venue, with the Arcola Country Club serving as the Stroke Play Co-Venue host.
