HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss sophomore right-handed starting pitchers Tanner Hall (Zachary, La.) and Hurston Waldrep (Thomasville, Ga.) collected All-America honors by D1Baseball.com Friday afternoon.
Hall earned first-team accolades, while Waldrep was recognized with third-team honors.
This first-team honor marks the fourth organization to recognize Hall for his play this spring, including ABCA/Rawlings, Collegiate Baseball and PerfectGame.org, along with a second-team nod from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
The Conference USA Pitcher of the Year finished the season with a 9-3 record and a 2.81 earned run average over 109 innings of work. He fanned 146 and walked just 14 during the year. Following the super regionals, Hall ranks nationally No. 3 in strikeout-to-walk ratio (10.43), No. 4 in strikeouts and No. 11 in walks per nine innings (1.16).
The Dick Howser Trophy and Golden Spikes Award semifinalist, as well as the Ferriss Trophy recipient for top collegiate baseball player in the state of Mississippi, also captured two C-USA Pitcher of the Week awards during the year.
Waldrep earned his first All-America honor, while also collecting a ABCA/Rawlings first-team All-South Region nod earlier this month.
Another two-time C-USA Pitcher of the Week award winner, Waldrep recorded a 6-2 record with a 3.20 ERA. In 90 innings in 2022, Waldrep whiffed 140 and walked 33 and hitters hit just .213 against him.
He earned first-team All-Conference USA honors as well during the season and ranks No. 3 nationally in strikeouts per nine innings (14.00) and No. 8 in strikeouts.
The pair combined for the most strikeouts in one season in Golden Eagle history with 286. Next week, the duo will report to the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team training camp with an opportunity to make a squad that will participate in Honkbal Week in Haarlem, Netherlands, July 8-15.
The pair of honorees marks the third time since 2016 that D1Baseball.com picked two or more Golden Eagles to their All-America squads.
The two other times came in 2017 (Matt Wallner, OF, 2nd; Taylor Braley, UTIL, 2nd) and 2018 (Nick Sandlin, SP, 1st; Luke Reynolds, 3B, 2nd; Matt Wallner, DH, 3rd).
Hall become only the second Golden Eagle starting pitcher to earn first team honors, while this year marks the first time the program enjoyed two different pitchers earning All-America spots.
