HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss women's tennis program earned its second-highest ITA Southern Regional ranking, finishing No. 8 in the final poll.
The Golden Eagles finished 13-5, including a 2-1 mark in league play. They claimed wins against Conference USA foes UTSA and LA Tech. Southern Miss won just under 70 percent of its single contests and won 33 of 49 doubles contests. The Black and Gold have won 31-straigh home matches, including a perfect 30-0 record under head coach Steve Schram at the Southern Miss Tennis Complex.
"I am extremely pleased with our Southern Region ranking once again this year," Schram said. "It's not easy to get a top-10 ranking in such a competitive region with 40-plus schools that include five SEC teams. When your team is making strides every year with good results, it's a testament to the player development and competing at a high level every match.
"And for our doubles team to finish the season with a No. 10 regional ranking and having defeated the No. 1 doubles team for Mississippi State during the season, shows that we can compete with any team."
On top of the team honors, Sarah Medik and Monique Burton finished No. 10 in the Southern Regional doubles rankings. The veteran pair finished 8-6, including a win over Mississippi States then-No.39 doubles play Magda Adaloglou and Chloe Cirotte. Medik and Burton downed the Bulldog duo, 7-5, marking a pivotal win for the pair early in the season. Adaloglou and Cirotte finished ranked No. 4 Southern Regional doubles rankings.
