2022 Beach Volleyball Championship Bracket Announced

DALLAS – Southern Miss 11-24 (1-3 C-USA) earns the No. 6 seed in the inaugural Conference USA Beach Volleyball Championships, Conference USA announced earlier today. Matches are set to begin on Thursday, April 28 with Southern Miss slated to play three-seed and 15th-ranked Georgia State at Noon CT.

Tournament Overview
The Championships will be held at John Hunt Park in Huntsville, Ala. from April 28-30 and are hosted by C-USA, the CCSA and Rally Sports.

Rounding out the C-USA participants are (1) Florida Atlantic, (2) FIU, (4) UAB, (5) Coastal Carolina and (7) ULM.

Southern Miss has faced Florida Atlantic (ranked 10th) earlier this year in the Black & Gold's second match of the day and first C-USA match. The Sandy Owls triumphed over the Golden Eagles 5-0 and have since finished 2022 21-8 overall with a 7-1 record in C-USA. The lone conference blemish coming against No. 19 and second-overall seed FIU.

UAB finished 15-16 (3-4) to secure the fourth seed of the tournament. The Blazers and Golden Eagles have squared off twice this season with UAB taking both matches. The first a 3-2 decision on March 5 at LSU's Tiger Beach Challenge and the second a 5-0 Blazer shutout at the Tulane Classic.

The last familiar foe to Southern Miss are the Warhawks of ULM. Southern Miss took their first and only win over a C-USA opponent against the Warhawks. The April 8 match up was a 3-2 decision and the deciding factor of the sixth and seventh seeds.

Other teams in the tournament that have not faced the 2022 Golden Eagles are No. 14 FIU (18-9, 4-1 C-USA), Coastal Carolina (18-16, 0-6 C-USA) and first round opponent No. 15 Georgia State (22-11, 5-3 C-USA).

First Round Matchup
The (3) Panthers sport wins over No. 6 LSU, No. 18 Stetson (twice), No. 19 South Carolina (twice), No. 16 Pepperdine and No. 20 Florida Gulf Coast. In C-USA action, Georgia State downed (5) Coastal Carolina (thrice) and (4) UAB (twice), while falling to (2) FIU and (1) FAU (twice) en route to their third seed tournament appearance.
