Friend Chompitakdacha Leads Golden Eagles to Start MountainView Collegiate

SADDLEBROOKE, Ariz. -- Junior Friend Chompitakdacha picked up right where she left off three weeks ago for the Southern Miss women's golf team, leading the Golden Eagles with a one-under 71 to tie for 21st after 18 holes at the MountainView Collegiate. Southern Miss sits in 13th as a team after one round at The Preserve Golf Club.Â
The Chiangmai, Thailand native started on the 10th hole and pared the first five holes before carding a double bogey on the 15th hole. Chompitakdacha birdied back-to-back holes to get back to even, then bogeyed two holes to sit one-over par with five holes left. The junior promptly went birdie, par, eagle to finish her round at one-under par. Freshman Elena Melich was equally as impressive on Friday, firing an even-par 72. Melich carded three birdies on the day to sit tied for 28th.Â
Momoka Ando fired a three-over 75 that included three birdies. Ando is tied for 54th after her first 18 holes. Jacee Fields birdied a team-high four holes to tie Chompitakdacha for the most by a Golden Eagle on Friday. Icie Cockerham had one birdie.Â
