HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss women's basketball sophomore Melyia Grayson has earned Conference USA Player of the Week honors, as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon for her performances against FIU and FAU.
"We're excited for Melyia," head coach Joye Lee-McNelis said. "Obviously, she had a phenomenal game against FAU. It was undoubtable the best game of her career. She's a young lady that really wants to be great and works hard to do so. We're really proud of her."
For the week, the Hattiesburg native averaged 21.5 ppg, 7.0 rpg and 1.5 bpg, including a career-high 32 points in the win over FAU on Saturday.
Grayson recorded her fifth double-double of the season and sixth of her career, as the Hattiesburg native pulled down 10 rebounds to go along with her new career-best.
In league games, she is shooting at a 55.4-percent clip to rank fourth among Conference USA student-athletes, while averaging 12.6 ppg.
She joins teammate Domonique Davis, who earned the award early this year, as Lady Eagles to be recognized by the conference during the season.
Grayson and the rest of the Southern Miss women's basketball team returns to action tonight against UTSA. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. at Reed Green Coliseum.
