TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Southern Miss drops the final two matches of the Florida State Beach Bash to North Florida and No. 6 TCU.
Â
The Golden Eagles fell 4-1 in the morning match against North Florida. The Ospreys entered the match with a 1-1 record, the win coming yesterday against Tampa.
Â
Southern Miss clipped the Ospreys in the 5th  slot, with Valeria Siakidou Papakyriakou and Kai Norman winning in three sets, the pair and squad's first set victory of the year.
Â
UNF took the remaining four sets 2-0 to pick up their second win of the season.
Â
"We definitely would have loved to had a better result and come away with a team win; however, we were finally able to break through and get a pair win on the 5th court with Valeria Siakidou Papakyriakou and Kai Norman," head coach Shawn Taylor said.
Â
The Black & Gold rounded out play at the Florida State Beach Bash against No. 6 TCU. The Horned Frogs entered the match 3-0, with wins against No. 13 Florida Atlantic, UAB, and No. 8 Cal Poly. Last season, TCU fell to LSU in the CCSA Championship match and was eliminated in two games at the NCAA Championships.
Â
Again, the 5th pairing of Siakidou and Norman shined, falling in three sets against the undefeated Horned Frogs. On the No. 4 court, freshmen pair Taylor Pierce and Reagan Sandlin came two points shy of forcing a third set.
Â
"Across the board we played great volleyball," says Taylor. "Our 5th pair almost squeezed out another win, but came up short."
Â
"The other teams were just a little bit better. We improved every match and are playing great volleyball. This is very promising moving forward," Taylor said.
Â
The Golden Eagles return to Hattiesburg for the week before traveling to the Bayou State for the Tiger Beach Invitational hosted by LSU. Play begins against C-USA foe UAB at 10:00 A.M. CST on Saturday, Mar. 5. While in Baton Rouge, Southern Miss will face Tulane, LSU, Texas A&M – Corpus Christi and Texas A&M – Kingsville along with UAB.
