Men's Basketball to Host Troy in Sun Belt Opener Thursday Night

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss' Sun Belt era starts on Thursday night when the Golden Eagles (11-2, 0-0 SBC) host Troy (8-5, 0-0 SBC) at Reed Green Coliseum. The men's basketball conference opener will tipoff at 7 p.m.

Golden Eagle Nuggets
- The Golden Eagles' 11 wins are the most under Jay Ladner in a single season since he started in 2018
- Southern Miss' 11 non-conference wins are tied for the second-most in the modern era of college basketball and the most since it recorded 13 during the 2010-11 season
- DeAndre Pinckney in coming off a 23-point, 13-rebound game at UNLV last Thursday. Both were career bests
- Felipe Haase had 19 points in the Golden Eagles' last home game – a 19-point win over McNeese. Pinckney (18), Austin Crowley (14), Mo Arnold (14) and Donovan Ivory (10) all joined the Chilean big man in double figures
- Arnold finished the McNeese game with a career-high eight assists to go along with his 14 points and seven rebounds
- As of Wednesday, Southern Miss ranks 24th in scoring defense (60.7), 11th in scoring margin (18.4), 22nd in steals per game (9.6), 12th in turnover margin (5.5) and 25th in turnovers forced per game (17.5)
- Southern Miss had a record-breaking day in the steals department against Lamar on Dec. 10 as its 21 steals was the fourth most in a single game in program history
- Three days later it set a program record for three-point attempts when it tried 42 at Lamar on Dec. 13
- Haase (7.2) and Pinckney (7.2) each average seven rebounds per contest and Haase's 94 lead the team
- Ladner went with the starting lineup of Tyler Morman, Mo Arnold, Crowley, Pinckney and Haase at UNLV. It was the sixth time he's used it this season and they are 5-1 when that unit starts
Scouting the Trojans
- Troy is coming off a three-point loss to Mercer before the holiday break
- The loss dropped the Trojans to 8-5 and snapped a two-game winning streak
- Troy took down Montana, 73-62, back in November. The Grizzlies are the only common opponent between the two schools
- Miles Duke leads all Trojans in scoring at 14.0 points per game. Christyon Eugene (12.6), Nelson Phillips (11.9), Zay Williams (10.9) and Aamer Muhammed (10.1)
- Duke has not seen any action since putting up 22 points on Nov. 23 against Southern – N.O.
- Williams is coming off a 20-point game against Mercer
- Phillips' 2.3 steals per game trails only Crowley's league-leading 2.6 steals per game
