Lady Eagles Set for Trip to Samford

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss women's basketball hits the road for the first time in two weeks, travelling to Homewood, Ala. to take on the Samford Bulldogs. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. from the Pete Hanna Center on the campus of Samford University.
Last Time Out
Southern Miss (5-2, 0-0 Sun Belt) extended its win streak to four-consecutive contests in a 74-42 win over in-state opponent Mississippi College
Domonique Davis (DeRidder, La. // LSU) recorded the 11th game of her career with 20 or more points, dropping 24 points along with a career-high six steals.
Melyia Grayson (Hattiesburg, Miss. // Hattiesburg HS) made her first start since Nov. 16 and made quite the impact. She finished 8-of-11 from the floor which, along with a 3-of-5 performance at the free throw line, netted her 19 points, a season-high.
The Lady Eagles collected 20 steals on the day, tied for the third-most steals in a game in program history and the most since swiping 25 in 2012.
The Samford Series
Southern Miss leads Samford 6-2 overall and sports a two-game winning streak over the Bulldogs.
The Black & Gold are 1-2 in Homewood, Ala. and winless in one try at the Pete Hanna Center.
Under Joye Lee-McNelis, the Lady Eagles 3-1 overall and winless in Homewood.
Scouting Samford
Samford is one of the best-shooting teams in the country, ranked 30th nationally with a 46.6 percent clip. The Bulldogs are not just efficient in the shooting as they have made an impressive 235 field goals on 504 attempts.
The Bulldogs are just as efficient from deep, connecting 56 times on 156 attempts, a 33.9 percent clip.
While efficient shooters, Samford struggles on the glass, so much so that they are led in rebounding by team rebounds with 48.
The best rebounder for the Bulldogs grabs just 5.1 boards a game and the team averaged 35.3 rebounds per game.
