Lady Eagle Basketball Returns to the Hardwood for Exhibition Action

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss women's basketball looks to debut a new and improved roster in an exhibition match against Auburn University at Montgomery. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. and admission is free to all spectators.
The Rosters
The Warhawks are led by first-year interim head coach Steve Kenner and look extremely different from last year's 6-19 finish. With eight newcomers arriving in Montgomery, the Warhawks have much to prove but an extremely high ceiling.
Southern Miss has spent the past few months fine-tuning their roster. Preseason First-Team All-SBC member Domonique Davis is joined in the back court by two transfers, Lani Cornfield and Jacorriah Bracey.
Cornfield, a pure shooter with a quick trigger joins the squad by way of Northwest Florida State College and looks to add needed range and a pure point guard to the Lady Eagle attack.
Bracey, formerly of Ole Miss, is an all-around athlete. Her range knows no limits and she can defend from any position. Time will tell, but as of now she appears to have the most potential to become the game-changer the Lady Eagles need this season.
Returning from last year and anchoring the front court is Melyia Grayson. The third-year sophomore is coming off a season where she shot 53.1 percent for 10.8 PPG on just 19.5 minutes per game. Grayson looks to explode both offensively and defensively—as she led the team with 37 blocks last year—to replace lost production from Kelsey Jones.
Flanking Grayson in the paint is Seton Hall transfer Femi Funeus, who returns to action for the first time in nearly two years. Having recovered from a season-ending leg injury, she is primed to have a breakout performance playing alongside Grayson.
The Lady Eagles are also looking to Lauren Gross and Rose Warren as a dynamic duo able to play almost any position. Gross led the squad in +/- this year and Warren's versatility leads her to sub in at any point in the game.
The AUM Series
Southern Miss leads the all-time series 1-0, although the game was an exhibition. In their last meeting, the Black & Gold prevailed 77-54 over the Warhawks behind Jamierra Faulkner's 24 point, nine assist and 7 steal performance.
Overall, the Ladye Eagles forced 33 turnovers, converting them into 39 points. 21 of the Warhawk giveaways came in the form of steals.
