Southern Miss' trip to Monroe will mark the first Sun Belt road trip in program history after conference play at home over the first two weekends. Although ULM is a conference foe now, the Golden Eagles are no strangers to the Warhawks. The two programs have met 24 previous times, with ULM holding a 13-11 advantage.
Sophomore outside Hitter Mia Wesley continues to set fire to the volleyball world as the Orem, Utah native is leading the conference in kills (303), kills per set (4.97) and points per set (5.70). The two-time Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week was held to only 22 total kills last weekend, including being held to single digit kills for the first time all season. Sophomore Cara Atkinson stepped up offensively and tallied 24 total kills from her middle blocker position. In Friday's five-set win, Atkinson finished with 14 kills, six blocks and a .522 hitting percentage.
Scouting ULM
ULM has a 6-12 record heading into this weekend but are winless in conference play. The Warhawks are paced by Madeline Williams who has gone for 207 kills this season, while swinging at a .331 clip. The middle blocker is coming off an 11-kill performance against South Alabama last Saturday. Brynn Botkin (122), Taylor Thomas (107) and Logan Jeffus (103) are the other three Warhawks with at least 100 kills this season.
Charlie Olson is in his fourth season at the helm of the ULM program and has guided the Warhawks to a 24-81 record. Southern Miss has won the last five meetings against ULM, with the most recent being a 3-0 sweep in 2017.
