HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss (10-6, 2-2 Sun Belt) volleyball team fell to Troy (8-8, 2-2 Sun Belt) in straight sets on Saturday afternoon to split the weekend series. The Trojan sweep (26-24, 25-22, 25-17) was just the second match the Golden Eagles dropped in straight sets all season.
The Trojan offense finished with a .364 hitting percentage compared to Southern Miss' .220. Offensively, sophomore middle blocker Cara Atkinson finished with a team-high 10 kills. Team-leader Mia Wesley finished with a team-high nine kills. It was the first match Wesley was held to under 10 kills.
Atkinson led Southern Miss with four blocks.
Redshirt junior setter Kenzie Smith had a career-high seven kills and a .545 hitting percentage. Smith also had a team-high 29 assists.

Southern Miss leaves the Hub City for the first time in two weeks and travels to Monroe, La. for a two-game stand with the Warhawks. The first match is set for Friday, Oct. 6 at 6 p.m. and the second to follow on Friday, Oct. 7 at 4 p.m.
