Southern Miss Opens Hoover Classic Tied for 2nd

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -Â After two rounds at the Hoover Classic, the Southern Miss women's golf team sits in a tie for 2nd at the Heatherwood Golf and Country Club. Momoka Ando and Friend Chompitakdacha are tied for 10th on the individual leaderboard after 34 holes.Â
Merche Corbacho rebounded from an 83 in the first to shoot a five-under 67 in her afternoon round that include six birdies. Corbacho's round is second-lowest round by a Golden Eagle in program history. Julie Baker's 65 in 2017 at the Carey Collegiate is the school record. Ando and Chompitakdacha both shot a 148 over the two rounds to put them seven strokes behind the leader.
Elena Melich fired a four-over 76 in her first round and followed it up with a six-over 78 in the second round. In her first appearance for the Black and Gold this season, Tenley Moretti fired an 11-over 83 in her opening round but responded with a one-over 73 to close out the day.Â
