HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss first baseman Christopher Sargent (Wilmer, Ala.) and right-handed pitcher Hunter Stanley (Hammond, La.) each secured a spot on the 2021 Air Force Reserve Conference USA All-Tournament team which was released following the league's Sunday championship game.
Sargent registered at least one hit in all four games, finishing 6-for-19 (.353) with three home runs and nine RBI for the Golden Eagles. He blasted an eighth-inning grand slam in the opening game versus WKU to end the contest in an 11-1 run-rule decision.
He followed that with a hit against Louisiana Tech in a 4-1 win over the Bulldogs on late Thursday night.
In the first of two games against the Bulldogs on Saturday, Sargent collected his second two home run game and drove in a season-high tying five runs. He added another hit in the final game of the Eagles' tournament run.
This season, Sargent holds a .224 batting average with 11 doubles, a triple, 13 home runs with 50 RBI.
For Stanley, he threw eight strong innings in team's opening game against WKU. He allowed just three hits and one walk while fanning 14 in the contest. It was his second highest strikeout performance of his career and third double-digit strikeout performance. He now has 119 strikeouts for the season, which ranks seventh on the school's single season chart.
In his start, Stanley retired the first 16 batters he faced before giving up a single. After a leadoff walk in the seventh, the only two other runners allowed were doubles in the eighth that yielded the Hilltoppers lone run for his first complete game of the season.
