
Softball Falls to Samford in Series Final

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Golden Eagles snap a six-game winning streak in Sunday's 8-2 loss to Samford in Birmingham, Alabama. Southern Miss moves to 18-10 on the season. The Bulldogs rallied on twelve hits and two home runs to edge out the Golden Eagles at the Samford Softball Field.
Offense
The Golden Eagles hit the ground running offensively scoring two runs in the top of the first inning.
Senior Heather Hill homered to left field plating two runs and giving the Golden Eagles an early lead in the contest. The homerun was Hill's third of the season.
Destini Brown, Jamie Powell and Hannah Borden would each record a hit on the game, but the Golden Eagles were unable to score through the remainder of the competition.
Southern Miss recorded one RBI, stole one base, and earned four walks on the game.
Defense
Southern Miss played fundamental defense committing only one error.
Senior Alyssa Davis made an outstanding defensive effort at second base recording multiple putouts.
Catcher Hannah Borden was a wall behind the plate allowing no passed balls or stolen bases on the outing.
Pitching
The Golden Eagles saw three different pitchers in six innings of defense.
Makenna Pierce took the start for the Golden Eagles from the circle before being replaced by Morgan Leinstock in the third. The two combined to allow eight runs on twelve hits. M. Pierce moves to 2-3 on the season.
Junior Kaylan Ladner entered the game in the fifth inning and kept the Bulldogs scoreless for the remainder of the contest.
