Women's Golf Holds Steady in First Round of Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate

NEW ORLEANS, La. -- The Southern Miss women's golf team sits only four strokes away from the top-five of the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate after Sunday's opening round.
The Golden Eagles fought wind gusts to card a 24-over 312, including Merche Corbacho's tie for 13th. The freshmen had three birdies on the day, matching Emily Cox for the team lead.
Valeria Pichardo also sits in a tie for 25th, and Cox's 79 marks her lowest round since the season-opening Lady Red Wolves Classic.
Southern Miss will look to build on its foundation in Monday's second round, with pairings TBA on Golfstat.com.
