HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Two-plus weeks later, the Southern Miss women's tennis team is set for its return to action Friday (2 p.m.) and Sunday (10 a.m.) against Northwestern State and Florida A&M.
Admission to all home matches are free, and fans are encouraged to adhere to masking and social distancing measures.
The two matches will mark the team's first since Friday, Jan. 15, when it fell to a stout Mississippi State team in the season opener. Newcomers Stephanie Booth (grad student) and Caroline Hudson (freshman) made their debuts on Nos. 5 and 6 while also teaming up on No. 3 doubles.
Head coach Steve Schram will be going for his 100th-career win and 24th as a Golden Eagle. Under his direction, Southern Miss has only lost consecutive matches once.
Northwestern State is making its season debut and was 10-4 last year, earning wins against Houston and UTSA along the way. The Lady Demons were also Southern Miss' only loss of the year, rallying from losing the doubles point for a 4-2 victory on Feb. 21 in Natchitoches, La. Florida A&M was 0-12 last year, including a 5-2 loss at Southern Miss on Jan. 24.
