Golden Eagles in Sixth After First Day of Mercer Invitational

MACON, Ga. -- After 36 holes at the Mercer Invitational, the Southern Miss women's golf team is in sixth place. Sophomore Merche Corbacho is tied for 18th after a three-over par 75 to start her day. Soutern Miss fired a 305 and 300 in the opening two rounds as a team.
 Corbacho fired a four-over par 76 for her second round to hold steady near the top of the leaderboard. Corbacho made up ground on the field as she went one-under par of Par 5's for the day. Friend Chompitakdacha and Tenley Moretti are both tied for 22nd. Chompitakdacha used a one-over par second round to climb back from a first-round 79. Elena Melich and Momoka Ando rounded out the Golden Eagles' team card as they shot a 153 and 156 on the day, respectively. Freshman Jacee Fields is the lone Golden Eagle competing as an individual and fired a 166 over the two rounds.Â
Mercer is leading the pack with a 16-over par day one score. The Golden Eagles are only seven strokes behind second-place Georgia State.Â
The Golden Eagles will play the final 18 holes at Brickyard Golf Club starting at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning.
