Beach Volleyball Travels to Huntsville for Fall Tournament

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Golden Eagle beach volleyball team travels to Huntsville, Ala. to take part in the Rally Volleyball Collegiate Beach Bash. Southern Miss will see action against five other collegiate beach volleyball programs in preparation for spring competition.Â
Eight pairs of Golden Eagles are set to take on the likes of Chattanooga, Tulane, Tulane, Georgia State, LSU and UAB. This is the final Rally competition Southern Miss will take part in this fall, following a previous tournament last weekend in Gulf Shores, Ala.Â
Southern Miss picked up 14 set victories last weekend in exhibition competition, including a pair of set wins over LSU. The Golden Eagles will look to continue their development in the fall before their inaugural season as a Conference USA program
Conference USA announced in October that beach volleyball would be added as a sponsored sport, beginning in 2022. Southern Miss is slated to join the C-USA, becoming the final program at the university to join the conference. The Golden Eagles will be joined by a pair of this weekend's opponents, UAB and Georgia State, in their move to the conference.Â
Head coach Shawn Taylor's roster features nine returning athletes and nine newcomers for the 2021 fall season. The Golden Eagles will be led by a trio of seniors, Kellie Garraway, Breleigh Favre and Olivia Hepworth throughout the 2021-22 season.
The Rally Volleyball Collegiate Beach Bash at Huntsville, Ala. will take place on Saturday, Nov. 6. The event will begin at 9:30 a.m. and conclude around 4 p.m. Fans can follow the Golden Eagles on Twitter and Instagram, @SouthernMissBVB.
