HATTIESBURG, Miss. --Â The Southern Miss bench poured in 39 points as the men's basketball team rallied past Delta State in a 68-60 win at Reed Green Coliseum Thursday night. The Golden Eagles' bench accounted for 39 points as DeAndre Pinckney racked up a game-high 20 points in 17 minutes of playing time off the bench.Â
"Delta State was a challenging opponent for us," said head coach Jay Ladner. "My hats off to them. Their initial group did a great job, but of course we didn't shoot the basketball well early on. We're going to be a work in progress for the first couple of weeks until we can find the right type of chemistry."
Southern Miss trailed 33-32 at halftime as the Statesmen shot 44.8 percent from the floor in the opening half. The Golden Eagles got a large contribution from junior Isaih Moore as the St. John's transfer had 11 points and 14 rebounds. Freshman Rashad Bolden added 11 points off the bench as he donned the Black and Gold for the first time. Southern Miss hit 27 field goals for a 38.6 percent shooting clip. Sophomore transfer Mo Arnold dished out a game-high four assists.Â
The Golden Eagles forced 15 turnovers and outrebounded the Statesmen, 46-39.
