FORT WORTH, Texas --Â The Southern Miss men's basketball team dropped its first road contest of the season on Monday night, falling 83-51 at TCU. Southern Miss junior guard Tae Hardy paced the Golden Eagles with 18 points and three steals on the defensive side of the ball.Â
"TCU played really well in a very impressive atmosphere," said Southern Miss head coach Jay Ladner. "Hats off to them, they played really well. We talked at halftime that there is no quit in a Southern Miss team and I didn't think our guys did.Â
"I think we had three consecutive great looks at threes to cut it to 12 or nine in the second half. We got a few stops there, but we just couldn't get it done."
Junior forward Isaih Moore continued to be a key piece for Southern Miss as he went for 11 points and four rebounds. Hardy had a stretch of five points in 36 seconds to make it 10-9 in favor of TCU seven minutes into the game, but the Horned Frogs responded to stretch their lead out to 11 points three minutes later. Southern Miss would pull back within nine before TCU extended its lead to 19 at halftime.Â
In the second half, Southern Miss pulled within striking distance a handful of times, but TCU managed to fight off any Golden Eagle comeback. The Golden Eagles shot 30.6 percent from the field in the second half and went two-of-11 from beyond the arc. Overall, Southern Miss shot 33.3 percent and 21-of-63 from the field. It only made three shots from behind the three-point line.Â
DeAndre Pinckney had a productive night, tallying nine points and eight rebounds in 23 minutes of playing time. The forward added one steal and block to the box score. Freshman Jaron Pierre, Jr. added five points, two assists and two rebounds. Sophomore Tate Ryder scored the first two points of his Southern Miss career late in the second half on a jumper.Â
The Golden Eagles return home on Sunday, Nov. 21 to host Lamar. Tip is set for 2 p.m.
