Men's Basketball Set to Host Lamar Before Embarking on Road Swing

HATTIESBURG, Miss. --Â The Southern Miss (1-2, 0-0 CUSA) men's basketball team is set to host Lamar (1-3, 0-0 WAC) on Sunday afternoon at Reed Green Coliseum. The 2 p.m. tip marks the final home game for the Golden Eagles until Dec. 11 as they set off for a five-game road swing.

The Need to Know
Southern Miss heads into Sunday's contest searching for a win after falling at TCU Monday night. Head coach Jay Ladner slid in Mo Arnold and DeAndre Pinckney into the starting five for the first time this season, which resulted in productive nights for both of them. Pinckney went for nine points and eight boards, while Arnold grabbed four rebounds and dished out four assists to go along with a block and steal. Junior Tae Hardy continued to have the hot hand as he scored a team-high 18 points. Junior Isaih Moore added 11 points to join Hardy in double figures.
The Golden Eagles have a two-game edge against Lamar in the all-time series, leading 8-6. The Black and Gold have won four-of-six at Reed Green Coliseum, including the last three in Hattiesburg. When the two met in 2020, Hardy had 13 points and three assists. Denijay Harris and Tyler Stevenson added eight and seven points, respectively. Mark Jaakson and Jaron Pierre, Jr. combined for five points in 25 minutes of play. Ladner owns a 4-3 record against Lamar dating back to his time at Southeastern Louisiana.
Scouting the Cardinals
Lamar comes into Sunday's contest two days after a last-second loss to Stetson on a buzzer beater. The Cardinals shot 23-of-61 from the floor and 8-of-24 from the three-point line. Lamar held Stetson to six field goals in the first half and had a double-digit lead after 20 minutes. It was led by Jordyn Adams' 15 points.
Adams leads the Cardinals in scoring this season, averaging 14.3 points per game and adds roughly three rebounds per game. Kasen Harrison contributes about 10.5 points per game to go along with a team-high 17 assists through four games. The Cardinals have been outscored by an average of 5.5 points this season and average 66.8 points per game.
