Southern Miss Finishes Ninth at Battle at Black Creek

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Freshman Ryan Dupuy (Baton Rouge, La.) carded a Golden Eagle low score of 73 for Southern Miss men's golf over the final 18 holes Tuesday to end the Battle of Black Creek with a 10th-place showing in Chattanooga, Tenn.
Dupuy finished the 54-hole even with a two-under 214 at the par 72, 7,204-yard Black Creek Club. The Golden Eagles put together their highest round of the year as a squad of 301 to place ninth overall in the team standings.
Sophomores Thongpipat Rattanayanon (Bangkok, Thailand) and Robbie Latter (Mississauga, Ontario) collected a 75 and a 79, respectively, over the final round. Rattanayanon ended in an 18th-place tie with a one-over 217, while Latter finished with a 221 and a 36th-place tie.
Senior Hunter Atkins (West Point, Miss.) posted a 74 over his final 18 holes to end with a 222 and a 44th-place tie, while senior Brian Richards (Gulf Breeze, Fla.) added an 84 for a 229 total and a 71st-place tie.
Host Chattanooga and UT Martin tied for the team championship as each team posted a seven-under 857. Appalachian State finished third with a 862, followed by Troy and Western Carolina (863), Francis Marion (864), South Dakota State and Tennessee Tech (869), Southern Miss (871) and Belmont (873) rounds out the top 10.
The event ends the fall portion of the schedule for the Golden Eagles. They return to action in the spring, opening up on Feb. 14-15 at the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate in Mobile, Ala.
