Southern Miss Returns Home To Face UAB

Hattiesburg, Miss. – Coming off a heartbreaking loss at UTEP, the Southern Miss women's basketball team will look to rebound against UAB on Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 4 p.m. at Reed Green Coliseum.
Both games will air on ESPN+ with Lee Roberts and Larry Boyd on the call. The voice of the Lady Eagles, Jason Baker, will have the game on the Southern Miss Radio Network, broadcast on 92.7 the Score and presented by Learfield IMG College.
Scouting the Blazers
• Head Coach Randy Norton is in his 8th season at the helm of the Blazers.
• UAB finished non-conference play at 5-1, but most recently dropped a pair of games to North Texas to begin C-USA play.
• The Blazers were picked to finish seventh in the Conference USA annual preseason poll.
• Norton's squad returns just two total starts from a 2019-20 that went 20-11.
• Junior guard Margaret Whitley currently paces the squad in scoring, averaging 23.3 points per game. The Geneva, Ill. dropped 35 in game one against North Texas, including seven 3's.
Scouting the Lady Eagles
• The Lady Eagles are 7-4 all-time in home conference openers at Reed Green Coliseum.
• Under McNelis, Southern Miss is 5-2 to start conference play at home, including winning three straight stretching from 2006 to 2012.
• Junior Destiny Smith returned against UTEP, matching a career high with 10 points going 4-of-10 from the field in her first game.
• Through the first four games, Southern Miss has changed its starting lineup during each contest. Ten of 13 players on the roster have made a start for the Lady Eagles.
• The Golden Eagles are the only team in C-USA to have three freshmen averaging over 5.0 points a game with Melyia Grayson (12.3), Kahia Warmsley (7.3) and Brikayla Gray (6.5) all over the mark.
