Men's Golf Finishes First Two Rounds in Alabama

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Hunter Richards led the Southern Miss men's golf team through its first two rounds of the Graeme McDowell Invitational on Tuesday, carding a 4-over 148 to sit in a tie for 29th. The Black and Gold hold the No. 10 spot.
Hunter Atkins boasted the Golden Eagles' lowest round of the day, carding a 71 that served as an eight-stroke improvement from the first. Bennett Ruby's collegiate debut saw him card a 76 and 77.
Southern Miss is 12 strokes behind South Alabama and 15 from Troy. The team's last tournament of the spring saw it improve 17 strokes over the event, and it will look to replicate in this week's final round.
Georgia Southern (10-under 566) holds a three-stroke lead over host UAB for the top spot.
