Women's Golf Opens Spring Campaign in Texas Monday

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Southern Miss Women's Golf begins its 2020 calendar year with a trip to the Lone Star State, where it will take part in the Texas State Invitational from Monday-Tuesday in Kyle, Texas.
The action will take place at the Plum Creek Golf Club, a par-72, 6,920-yard course. Each day features an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start, with the first 36 holes on Monday and the final 18 Tuesday. Live scoring is available via Golfstat.com.
The Golden Eagles will be joined by Houston Baptist, Lamar, Little Rock, Marshall, Oral Roberts, No. 83 Rutgers, Sam Houston State, Stephen F. Austin, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, No. 75 Texas State, ULM, UT Arlington, UTRGV and No. 88 UTSA. This is Southern Miss' third Texas tourney in head coach Lucy Nunn's two-year tenure, following trips to the Jim West Challenge (San Marcos) and ICON Invitational (The Woodlands) last season.
This week's lineup features the collegiate debut of Maria Toledo Bailey, a freshman out of England. She is joined by Julie Baker, Friend Chompitakdacha, Tenley Moretti and Valeria Pichardo. The latter three competed in each of the team's four fall tournaments.
Chompitakdacha boasted a team-low 74.25 stroke average, which included three par-or-better rounds. She was in the top-25 three times, including a 12th-place finish at the Lady Paladin Invitational, a team-best as well.
