HATTIESBURG, Miss. --Â The Southern Miss (0-2, 0-0 CCSA) Beach Volleyball program will now welcome Louisiana-Monroe (0-4, 0-2) to the Southern Miss Beach Volleyball Complex at 11 a.m. due to impending rain in the Pine Belt area Monday afternoon. The Golden Eagles and Warhawks both went winless in their opening matches, meaning one team will walk away with their first win of the 2020 campaign. Admission to the match is free.
Southern Miss dropped its opening matches to New Orleans in a doubleheader in Hattiesburg on Saturday morning. Both matches were 3-2 decisions in which the Privateers held off the Golden Eagles in deciding games. Haley Hop and Hallie Phelan were joined by Kellie Garraway and Kinsley Hanback as the only two pairings to win both matches against New Orleans.Â
Hop and Phelan took care of business in straights sets in both matches, while Garraway and Hanback took their second match in three sets after taking the first one in straight sets. Southern Miss' third and fifth pairings were also the lone duos to secure a win against New Orleans.
The Opponent
ULM fell in all four matches at the Florida State Invitational this past weekend, including two CCSA contests. The Warhawks were swept in three of their four matches against Florida State, Stetson, Tampa, and TCU. Grace Convey and Julia Blazek were the lone ULM duo to defeat Tampa, winning in straight sets on court two. It will be a family affair when Blazek steps into the sand Monday as her brother Wesley Blazek is a Student Assistant for the Golden Eagles.Â
Monday's meeting will be the first meeting between the two schools and the first of three this season. They will meet on March 7 in Covington, La. and March 13 in Baton Rouge, La.Â
