Softball to Host Alcorn State in Doubleheader on Wednesday

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss softball team (4-3) will take on Alcorn State (5-7) in a doubleheader on Wednesday night (Feb. 19) at the Southern Miss Softball Complex in Hattiesburg.

Game one of Wednesday night's doubleheader is slated for a 4:00 p.m. first pitch and game two is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.

The Last Time on the Diamond
The last day that the Golden Eagles played, they fell to Southeast Missouri State and Purdue Fort Wayne by final scores of 7-0 and 7-5 respectively on day two of the Troy Tournament hosted by Troy University.

Noteworthy Moments in the Troy Tournament

Junior third baseman Tata Davis' three-run home run that came in the top of the third inning of Southern Miss' game against Purdue Fort Wayne marked her first home run of the season.
On Saturday, sophomore outfielder Caroline Casey earned her first start of the season. Casey started the game against Purdue Fort Wayne as the Golden Eagles' right fielder.
In addition to earning her first start of the season, Casey also registered the first triple of her Southern Miss career after smacking a leadoff triple in the top of the fourth inning in Southern Miss' contest against Purdue Fort Wayne.

Alcorn State is led by Head Coach Josef Rankin who has been at the helm of the Lady Braves softball program since 2015.

Alcorn State is currently 5-7 on the season. The Lady Braves posted a 2-3 record in the Vicksburg Tournament last weekend. In the tournament, Alcorn State pickup up a 14-6 win over Jarvis Christian (six innings) and a 10-9 win over Miles College. Alcorn State was defeated by SIU-Edwardsville, 7-1, Miles College, 4-2 and Southern University, 8-6.
