Men's Tennis Hosts Lamar on Sunday

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Southern Miss will look to get back in the win column Sunday when it hosts Lamar in an 11 a.m. match. Admission is free.

The Golden Eagles fell by the slimmest of tiebreaker margins in the final singles set against West Alabama on Thursday. Southern Miss had won its first three matches of the season.

The Golden Eagles boast a pair of 4-0 singles performers in Matthieu Peres and Christopher Cahour. Peres and Alexander Gima have also been unscathed in doubles play this season.

The previous two years saw inclement weather cancel the contest, and Lamar got the upper hand in 2017 with a 4-2 home win. Jorman Reyes and Chao-Yu Huang earned the Golden Eagles' two singles victories.

Lamar is 0-3 so far, but has played the likes of SMU and No. 15 Oklahoma State in the early going and falling to the Mustangs 4-3. Scott Shankles was hired as the head coach in 2010 and has helped the Cardinals to two NCAA appearances.
