Southern Miss Sweeps Doubleheader

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss volleyball team picked up a pair of wins over Louisiana Tech on Saturday at home, taking both matches 3-1 (22-25, 25-16, 25-16, 25-14) (25-17, 22-25, 25-19, 25-12).
Junior Dequesne Moratzka led the offensive attack for the Golden Eagles with 31 kills on the day. She finished with a double-double in the second match with 15 kills to go along with 11 digs, while collecting 16 kills and seven digs in the opener. Joining her with a double-double in the second match was Lauren Talbert with 11 kills and 16 digs.
Talbert also finished with double-digit kills in both matches, finishing with 11 in both matches. Kinsley Hanback joined Moratzka and Talbert in double figures with 13 kills in match one, and closed the doubleheader with 21 kills in all. Nyanuer Bidit was also stellar on the offensive end posting a .382 hitting percentage to go along with 16 kills.
Defensively, libero Madison Lawler lead the squad with 39 digs (22 and 17) over the two matches, while right behind her was Talbert with 33 digs. The Golden Eagles saw big performances from a pair of setters with Piper Matsumoto dishing out 43 assists in match one and Kenzie Smith matching Matsumoto in the match two with 43 helpers as well.
Southern Miss will return to action in the spring with the future schedule to be announced.
