Golden Eagle Overview
• Southern Miss continues its 104th football season this week, having first fielded a team in 1912. The Golden Eagles are 601-434-27, which is 37th best among FBS teams by winning percentage (.579).
• Southern Miss has captured five-straight winning seasons and 23 over the last 26. The school established its record for seasonal wins in 2011 with 12.
• The Golden Eagles are slated to play seven home games this fall, marking only the second time that they have done that in their history. The only other time came in 1920.
• The program has posted a 153-69 (.689) record at The Rock. Since the 1976 season, the program has finished at .500 or better in home games for a season 39 times.
• Interim coach Scott Walden made his Golden Eagle debut last week against LA Tech, marking the first time Southern Miss has had an interim coach in the middle of a season. Walden is 7-5 as a head coach, having led East Texas Baptist during the 2016 campaign. He was the youngest head coach in the NCAA that season and is currently the youngest sitting head coach in the FBS (see page two for chart).

Notes from the Tulane Game
• The Golden Eagles were without the services of star receiver Tim Jones (14 catches, 299 yards and 2 TD in first two games), but found big play capabilities out of two emerging threats.
• Jason Brownlee's 88-yard TD catch in the first five minutes marked the fourth-longest completion in school history and the program's furthest connection since 2011. Tight end Naricuss Driver slipped through the middle for a 61-yard catch-and-run that also marked his first-career reception.
• The Golden Eagles notched a turnover for the third-straight game.
• Hayes Maples' 15 tackles were the most by an Eagle since Brian Anderson in 2014 versus Appalachian State.
Â
The North Texas Series
• Southern Miss snapped a three-game losing streak to the Mean Green with a 45-27 win inside The Rock for Homecoming.
• DeMichael Harris, now with the Colts, had a 59-yard TD catch and rushing scores of 13 and 60 yards. Current Philadelphia Eagle Quez Watkins also had eight catches for 198 yards as Jack Abraham went 29-for-36 for 421 yards (three TDs, no turnovers).
• The Golden Eagles led 28-20 at the half and limited Mason Fine to 11-for-25 passing for 217 yards.
• Southern Miss' last win in Denton (30-20) came on Oct. 18, 2014. The Golden Eagles have won six-straight games against Conference USA's Texas schools.

In Conference USA Play
The Golden Eagles opened their 25th season of C-USA play in 2020. Southern Miss now holds an all-time mark of 112-70 (.615) in Conference USA contests, including a 59-32 mark at home, while compiling a 53-38 ledger on the road. In the previous 24 seasons of C-USA play, Southern Miss has enjoyed 18 seasons of winning marks as well as two years of finishing at .500.
