Men's Golf Holds 10th After First Day of Little Rock Invitational

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss junior Brice Wilkinson (Madison, Miss.) shot rounds of 67 and 72 for a 139 stroke total in tying for seventh after the opening day of the First Tee/Little Rock Invitational in Little Rock, Ark., Monday.
The Golden Eagles posted team rounds of a two-under par 286 and a 291 for a one-over 577 as Southern Miss ranks No. 10 being played at the Founder's Course at Chenal Country Club.
Wilkinson shot a three-under par on his final nine holes during his opening round on the par-72, 7,115-yard course, including an eagle to post his season-low round.
Following Wilkinson in the individual scoring for the Golden Eagles was junior Brian Richards (Gulf Breeze, Fla.), who posted rounds of with a 71 and a 74 for a 145 and a 30-place tie. Junior Hunter Atkins (West Point, Miss.) added rounds of 71 and 77 for a 148 and a 45th-place tie.
Freshman Robbie Latter (Mississauga, Ontario) added a 77 and a 73 for a 150 and a 56th-place tie, while senior Matt Lorenz collected rounds of a 78 and a 74 for a 152 and a 64th-place tie. Fellow freshman Bennett Ruby (Waterloo, Ontario) added an 81 and a 72 for a 153 and a 69th-place tie.
Arkansas State, shot a 36-hole, 23-under-par 553 to hold the team lead, as host Little Rock finds themselves six strokes behind with a 559. UT Arlington ranks third at 561, followed by Abilene Christian (564), UL Lafayette (567), Lamar (570), ULM (571), Louisiana Tech (573), Texas State (575), Southern Miss, South Alabama (580), Central Arkansas (592), Southern Illinois (593) and Missouri State (604).
The Golden Eagles finish the event Tuesday with 18 more holes. The teams will start at 8 a.m., with a shotgun start. Fans can follow the action by clicking here for live scoring.
