Men's Tennis Opens Home Campaign with 6-1 Win over Alcorn

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss men's tennis team prevailed 6-1 over Alcorn on a balmy Friday afternoon to begin its home slate.
"We remained with a similar lineup to our first match and were pleased with the results," head coach Zubin Engineer said. "There are always things to work on, but seeing two of our guys go deep into their matches and battle from within is encouraging. We just need to make sure we finish the job with a win."
The doubles tandems were the same as Tuesday's opener, with Hsiang Yi Wang and Vence N'Tcha applying the pressure late for the second win and point.
Christopher Cahour made quick work of his foe with a pair of shutouts to earn the first singles point. N'Tcha's first singles action was a smooth one as well with a 6-0, 6-1 decision. Wang went three sets for the second-straight match, but fell just short in a 10-8 marathon at the end. Matthieu Peres was able to shut the door with another nice first-set rally, capping it off with a 10-8 decision of his own.
Cahour has also now won three of his four sets on the year by blanking his foe.
Southern Miss continues the homestand Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. against Florida A&M.
