Men's Golf Opens Fall Season by Hosting Sam Hall Intercollegiate

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss men's golf squad opens its 2019-20 season by playing host to the 17th annual Sam Hall Intercollegiate Monday and Tuesday at the Hattiesburg Country Club.
Sixteen teams, and a total of 88 golfers, will vie for an individual and team championship, which will consists of 56 holes, 36 to be played on Monday, with an additional 18 on Tuesday.
Golfers open up play at 8:30 a.m., Monday, with a shotgun start on the par-71, 6,902-yard course. The entrants will play a continuous two rounds that day, before finishing things up starting at 8 a.m., Tuesday, for the final circuit.
The teams set to compete include Appalachian State, Austin Peay, Central Arkansas, Houston Baptist, Incarnate Word, McNeese State, Missouri State, New Orleans, Nicholls State, North Alabama, Oral Roberts, Samford, Sam Houston State, Southeastern Louisiana, Troy and host Golden Eagles.
Southern Miss won the event last season as they collected a nine-under 843 to capture the tournament by four strokes over Mercer. Senior Matt Lorenz (Gulf Shores, Ala.) shot rounds of 69, 69 and 67 to win the event, besting the next competitor by three strokes.
The event is free and the public is invited to attend.
